We are looking for a candidate for a fellowship Functional, Reconstructive and Neuro-Urology.

About the position

We offer a part time (80%) paid position for a fellow in Functional, Reconstructive and Neuro-Urology at University Medical Center (UMC) Utrecht. The fellow is considered a full member of the medical staff. The fellowship can be tailored to the desired further career profile of the fellow as a broad range of training and research opportunities are available. Accents can be put on (Video-)Urodynamics, Neuro-Urology, Transitional Urology, Urethral reconstruction (male/female, strictures / diverticula / fistulae), and Complex Pelvic and Upper Urinary Tract Reconstructive surgery (male incontinence surgery, mesh removal, continent and incontinent urinary deviation, catheterisable channels, bladder augmentation, ureteric surgery). Opportunities to train in Female Urology are available if desired through cooperation with the Urogynaecology department. As a member of the staff, the fellow runs their own outpatient clinic (including an adult spina bifida outpatient clinic), supervises ward rounds and in-hospital consultations, takes part in the on-call rota as supervisor of the registrars, joins the 3 adult benign reconstructive urologists in the OR with increasing responsibilities, has an active role in education of medical students and as a mentor of aspiring urologists in training, and actively participates in research in the desired field of interest. The fellow can apply for exchange visits to other European Reference Centers which are part of the European Reference Network (ERN) eUrogen.

The fellowship is a 1-year program which can be expanded to 2 years. Salary is conform the CAO-UMC (collective employment agreement), scaling with previous experience as a Urologist and with compensation for participating in the on-call rota. The maximum of the scale is EUR7612,- on a 36 hour working week.

The Urology department at UMC Utrecht employs 12 consultant Urologists and 2 fellows. The department is organized into Uro-oncology, Paediatric Urology and Benign adult Urology which are in very close cooperation. The Benign adult Urology department is a tertiary referral center in the Netherlands and Europe. Our focus lies on treatment of male and female urethral diseases, complicated and complex pelvic disorders including tertiary incontinence care, transitional Urology, surgery in adults with congenital disorders, and neuro-urology. Other areas of focus are complex stone treatments and male infertility. The department has been recognized as a full member excellence center by the ERN eUROGEN, the ERN for patients with a rare uro-recto-genital disease. The Urology department at UMC Utrecht has an excellent history in patient care, science and research. UMC Utrecht has two surgical robots available, and a robot service for Benign adult Urology will be implemented. We provide education and training to Urologists (fellows), registrars, medical students and paramedics. We have a strong collaboration with  with “Bergman” clinics for women, with “de Hoogstraat” rehabilitation center and with Princess Maxima Center (PMC - Paediatric Oncology). Weekly radiology rounds are held, next to monthly nephrology and urogynaecology meetings, research meetings and a journal club. The department is a member of Regenerative Medicine Utrecht and has a successful research line on urethral tissue.

The Urology Department at UMC Utrecht is in search of an accredited Urologist with a specific interest in (complex) adult Functional, Reconstructive and Neuro-Urology.

Proficiency of or learning Dutch is mandatory. The Department has good previous experience with Urologists from abroad and can advise herein. The International Service Desk (ISD) of UMC Utrecht is happy to offer its services to all incoming staff, current international staff, and guests of UMC Utrecht  and Utrecht University. ISD will assist you with the various procedures that are required to work and live in the Netherlands legally

Research, teaching and participating in the education of upcoming urologists is part of your academic position, as is multidisciplinary cooperation.
